Congratulations to the Jr. High students for excellent performances at Solo and Ensemble! The students received 12 Superiors and 15 Excellent ratings! It was a great experience for everyone involved.

Upcoming Events

The Talk to the Animals concert is Saturday, May 5th at 10 A.M. The concert attire is shorts or jeans and the Talk to the Animals T-shirt. The t-shirt will be sent home before the concert.
6th Grade Graduation is on Tuesday, May 22nd at Romer’s in Greenville. Students in 4th-6th grade are required to attend. More information coming soon.

Orchestras: Updated 4.16.12

Montessori Music Makers, Chamber Ensemble, Jr. High Orchestra, 3rd grade orchestra, and the 2nd grade orchestra are working on music for the May Concert.

Sectionals: Updated 1.6.12

2nd Grade students are reviewing D and A string notes, learning eighth note and half note rhythms, and continuing to work on proper playing position.
3rd Grade students are reviewing G and C/E string notes, naturals, and scales.
4th Grade students are learning sixteenth note rhythms and reviewing low first and second finger.
5th Grade students are reviewing key signatures, learning about enharmonic notes, and working on finger patterns in different keys. Students will also learn about transposing and composing.
6th Grade students are reviewing third position, studying key signatures with finger patterns, being introduced to fifth position/treble clef for viola/thumb position for cello, and working on solo skills with the piece Bourree. 2nd Grade students are learning play notes on the D and A string and bowing.

Music History:
This class meets every Tuesday afternoon and is broken up by grade level.

4th Grade students are studying Baroque music concepts, composers, and listening examples.
5th Grade students are learning about Romantic and 20th century composers and styles.
6th Grade students are working on a boomwacker ensemble for the May concert and a piece for 6th grade graduation.

Vocal Music:
Each Friday students are introduced to general music concepts using their voice and various instruments.

All vocal classes are working on the music and movements for the May concert

Kindergarten students are working on basic rhythms and moving to music.
2nd Floor students are working on dance steps, basic rhythms, and reading music.
3rd Floor students are working on singing in harmony, dance steps, and reviewing sixteenth note rhythms.
