Thank you to all for a wonderful Jr. High Holiday Tour and all of the great musical
activities that happened at the elementary school.

Upcoming Events

The 6th grade solo and ensemble concert is March 2nd. Students in 5th and 6th grade will be performing and student in 4th grade will be serving and helping at the event. The concert begins at 7pm at Memorial Hall. Students are asked to arrive between 6:40-6:45 to tune and warmup. 5th and 6th grade students are to wear nice dress clothes for this performance.
The Jr. High Solo and Ensemble date has been set for April 14th at Fairlawn Local Schools. This is a required event. Students are to wear black bottoms and white tops. Students will be performing in front of a judge for a rating of their performance. Performance times will be sent home as soon as they are received. They usually arrive 1-2 weeks before the event. Students will need to find transportation to and from the event. Please feel free to organize carpools.

Orchestras: Updated 1.6.12

Montessori Music Makers, the 3rd grade orchestra, and the 2nd grade orchestra are working on ensemble skills using classical music.
The Chamber Ensemble is beginning to work on music for the Solo and Ensemble Concert in March.
The Junior High Orchestra is working on music for solo and ensemble, the May concert, and playing skills.

Sectionals: Updated 1.6.12

2nd Grade students are learning play notes on the D and A string and bowing.
3rd Grade students are reviewing D and A string and beginning to focus on the G and C/E string.
4th Grade students are learning scales and flat/sharp notes.
5th Grade students are learning new time signatures and flat key signatures.
6th Grade students are working on 3rd position, vibrato, tuning, and solo skills.

Music History:
This class meets every Tuesday afternoon and is broken up by grade level.

4th Grade students are studying Renaissance music concepts, composers, and listening examples.
5th Grade students are learning about Romantic composers and styles.
6th Grade students are creating a gamalan puppet play that they will perform for the 2nd floor students. Students will be given a small ensemble that they will perform in March.

Vocal Music:
Each Friday students are introduced to general music concepts using their voice and various instruments.

Kindergarten students are working on using their singing voices, loud and soft, moving to music, and songs of the season.
2nd Floor students are working on singing in unison, instrument introduction, and moving rhythmically to music.
3rd Floor students are learning to sing in tune, sing songs of the season, and create percussion accompaniment appropriate for each song.
